School Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS)

At our school, we use the School-Wide Positive Behaviour Support (SWPBS) framework to create a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive.

SWPBS is a proactive, evidence-based approach that teaches and reinforces positive behaviours across all areas of the school. It focuses on setting clear expectations, explicitly teaching these to students, and recognising and celebrating when they are demonstrated.

Our school wide approach helps to ensure teachers and students have more time to focus on relationships and learning. Students and staff benefit from:

  • increased respectful and positive behaviour
  • increased time focused on learning
  • improved social-emotional wellbeing
  • positive and respectful relationships among students and staff
  • increased adoption of evidence-based instructional practices
  • a predictable learning environment

Our approach is built around our three core values:

  • Respect– We treat people, places, and belongings with care and kindness.
  • Responsibility– We make good choices and take ownership of our actions.
  • Resilience– We keep trying, learn from challenges, and bounce back when things get tough.

These values are woven into all aspects of school life, from classrooms to the playground, and are supported by a matrix of expectations that clearly describes what they look like in different settings. Through SWPBS, we aim to foster a positive school culture where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
